A local teacher has turned training into a fundraiser for the School Music Program
Suunto, a global leader in precision training instruments and official timing sponsor of the Ragnar Relay series, has awarded Greg McFall and his race team, Witness The Fitness, Suunto t3d training watches for their winning entry in the Ragnar Relay Series' “My Story” contest.
Ragnar Relay Series is the nation’s top provider of overnight-relay races. Ragnar Relay SoCal is the largest second year race with participation more than doubling from 2009.
Suunto is supporting Ragnar Relay’s “My Story” contests across the country and awarding the winning teams with t3d watches to allow them to train with more accuracy and confidence. Each Ragnar Race in 2010 offers an opportunity for teams to tell their unique story and have a chance to win Suunto watches.
McFall, the 2008 California Teacher of the Year, submitted a story about how his eighth grade students encouraged him to get more active and healthy. To get him back on a fit track, McFall's students helped him create an interactive website (www.musicforthesakeofmusic.org) to track his progress. The project developed further to become a fundraiser benefiting the school's music program.
“Our goal was to raise $1000 for the purchase of violins for the music program,” said McFall, winner of Suunto giveaway. “The community, parents, school and students have gotten involved. I am proud to say that with the help of so many generous people we have raised $800 with donations still coming in as we are coming closer to race day.”
“Suunto is proud and honored to sponsor a team that is giving back to the local community,” said Matt Kaplan, Vice President and Business Direction of Suunto North America. “Our goal is to support the race and the runners as best as we can, I think we found a very deserving team in Southern California.”
Suunto will provide the official race time at both the start and finish for Ragnar Relay SoCal for 2010. Known for dependability and accuracy, Suunto training watches provide users with a variety of physiological parameters including real-time heart rate, calories burned and training zones to help athletes of all levels monitor, analyze and improve performance.
The Ragnar Relay Series is experiencing dramatic growth as the series is forecasting a 100-percent increase in registrations this year. In 2010 it is projected that 40,000 runners will participate in one or more of the 12 Ragnar Relays across the country.
