What’s the best thing about your Suunto?
"I really love Suunto because of its enormous versatility. Not only do I get all the important information at one glance during intensive training, but also as a professional triathlete and a true multi-sports athlete, I am using my Suunto t6 for all the different sports I practice. I get precise information on my heart rate in combination with altitude, but also speed and distance.”

“For swimming I use the heart rate variation memory belt that records directly (to a nearby laptop), so I don't need to wear a watch while swimming and can analyse my session afterwards."

"At the end of the day, I always upload my training sessions to my computer with the Suunto Training Manager program, and I share it with my personal coach Michael Traub. I also regularly email all the log-files to the National Coach Roland Knoll, who does an in-depth analysis of my performance and provides me with new tasks for the next week.”

Most memorable sporting moment?
Winning the ITU World Championships in 2007.

Story:
A competitive triathlete since the age of 12, Unger became a professional in 2004 and over the years has gradually upped his training miles and hours while remaining aware of the risks of over exertion and long-term fatigue.

“I never knew that swimming has a real overtraining risk,” he explains, “but my Suunto software has taught me how to train just right.”

“The Training Effect programme helps me avoid overtraining in the final preparation phase before my competitions when I really train hard and add intensity. At that stage, the analysis on heart rate variation allows me to detect overtraining even before I feel it.”

His training methods proved to be successful in 2007 when the German won an exciting ITU World Championships in his hometown of Hamburg.
