red dot design award winner 2010Suunto Elementum picks up its second international design award of the year

Suunto, a leading manufacturer of sports precision instruments, has won the prestigious red dot design award 2010 with the Suunto Elementum watch collection. The award was received in the Leisure/Lifestyle category in July and is the second international design competition win for Suunto Elementum this year – in March it also won the famous iF product design award.

The red dot award: product design is a world-class award presented to products that exhibit superior design in a total of nine categories, including innovation, functionality, ergonomics, ecology, and durability. A total of 4,252 products from 57 countries took part in the red dot award: product design competition this year.

“Being recognized for high design quality in such a large global competition highlights the fact that Suunto Elementum watches are stylish, urban-inspired time pieces that combine excellent craftsmanship with precision digital technology in a unique coalescence of function and form”, says Mikko Moilanen, Suunto President.

Suunto ElementumThe collection consists of three watch series: Elementum Aqua, Elementum Terra, and Elementum Ventus, designed for diving, mountaineering, and sailing respectively.

All the Elementum watches are designed and manufactured in Finland, ensuring the perfect integration of design and engineering that creates a true Suunto watch, that is both credible and functional outdoors and eye-catching in the city.

The Suunto Elementum has also been nominated for the Product Design category of the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany. The very nomination for Germany's highest official design award is a very special honor. It is not possible to apply for the award; to be short-listed, products must be nominated by the regional Departments of Commerce and senators of the various German states or by Germany's Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. In addition, they must have already received a national or international award.
