Suunto, a leading designer and manufacturer of sports precision instruments, will serve as the official timing and data partner for the Dextro Energy Triathlon - ITU World Championship Series third year in row.

Suunto Ambassador Javier GomezNow in its third year, the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series will see the world’s fastest triathletes race head-to-head in series of 7 races. The series kicks off in Sydney on April 10 and continues in Yokohama, Madrid, Kitzbühel, Hamburg, London and Beijing, where season’s ITU World Champions will crowned on September 10-11.

“Last year 21,000 athletes competed in mass-participation races in front of 700,000 spectators and global television audiences in 149 countries. The race is expected to attract even higher numbers in 2011. Having Suunto as a partner will provide an opportunity to integrate leading edge technology into our events and television programming. Significantly Suunto will collect high performance data from competing athletes and deliver it directly to our TV screens”, says Paul Coleman, Managing Director of ITU World Championships Series. The data will include GPS, real-time speed and distance information. Display of this data and information will significantly enhance our television viewer’s experience.’’

“The World Championship Series is a great innovation and we are proud to be involved with these events for the third time in row,” says Suunto Global Sports Marketing Manager Markus Rampf.

“Triathletes generally have large-volume training programs across different sporting disciplines and have high expectations of their gear,” continues Rampf. “With its product versatility, Suunto has been favored by many triathletes from elite to amateur competitors, thanks to the multisport heart rate monitors and PODs with interference-free data transmission and, speed and distance measurement. Last season we were happy to see our Ambassador Javier Gomez to win the Series, completed with the success of Olympic gold medallist Jan Frodeno.”

The Dextro Energy Triathlon - ITU World Championship Series aims to offer a race to every level of athlete – from novice to professional triathletes. The professionals Javier Gomez and Jan Frodeno have handed out their coaches to help out in triathlon training in Movescount.com, Suunto’s free online sports community.

Gomez’s coach Omar Gonzalez and Frodeno’s coach Roland Knoll have created triathlon training programs specifically for Movescount members to suit all levels of athletes. Whether beginner, or experienced triathlon enthusiast, there should be a training program that suits one’s goals in the ITU world championship series events. These 12 – 13 weeks’ triathlon training programs vary from sprint (750m swim / 20k bike / 5k run), and Olympic distance (1,5k swim / 40k bike / 10k run).
